谷歌在去年曾推出了代号为CR-48的测试机型，目前的情况是：Chromebook只有通过Chrome浏览器才能进入网络应用和浏览数据。谷歌声称这项新的“计算模型”提升了系统安全级别：用户不需要安装杀毒软件，而是依赖网络服务和谷歌“多层”安全，包括沙盒技术（sandboxing），数据加密和验证启动，如同CR-48。
三星5系列的Chromebook笔记本电脑拥有12:10的12.1英寸屏幕，英特尔双核N570处理器，内置高清摄像头。谷歌副总裁Sundar Pichai声称三星Chromebook笔记本电脑电池能支撑8.5小时，而宏碁的Chromebook笔记本电池能持续使用6.5小时。更快的是，Chromebook的8秒开机，1秒从睡眠唤醒。
